Honda Pilot OIl Leak - HondaClub.com

Hey Guys,

I have a 2003 Honda Pilot EX that I just bought. It currently has 33k miles on it and I have a pretty bad oil leak.

what I have checked.

checked for double gasket on the Oil Filter
verified the gasket and drain plug is in good shap and is the correct one
Had my Honda dealer re seal the oil pan
degreased the the entire underbody for possible run off froma previous oil change.

Anyways I am just curious if anyone else has seen this problem.

wow, hopefully not coming from the head.... you have single point leak or do you have multiple leak spots?

you need to check all around where the head meets the block. Could be valve cover gasket. Check those two spots all around. Good luck.

do you have a crush washer on your oil pan drain plug ?

Turns out it was the rear main seal. 1700 dollars to fix. Cool thing is Honda paid the bill even though it was not technically under warranty anymore

take off the plastic cover on the front of the engine,inspect the cam,crank,oil pump drive shaft seal. if car has many miles on it they WILL leak. check the oil pump drive shaft seal closely sometimes they come out, Honda has a retainer for that seal.

To the OP, like he said...I would start small like the crush washer, and move onto bigger, more expensive stuff. Did you reuse the prior crush washer, or replace it when you removed the drain plug?
