I've only owned Turbos, so I am biased here of course. My first turbo was in 1990 when I purchased a new '90 Eagle Talon TSI AWD. Never a problem with the turbo and I smoked many cars with it. One memorable car i repeatedly raced with my Talon a SC T-bird. Those races back then convinced alot of local people that turbos & 4 cylinders were the way to go!
My current Turbo-equipped car is a '08 VW Jetta Wolfsburg 2.0T. Needless to say the engineering tweaks in turbos over 18 years shows the differences in the Jetta, as well as what many will argue is the engineering between the two.
Having to decide between a SC or a TC for an aftermarket application, as others here plainly eluded to, unless it was a V8 I was working with, I'd go with a Turbo every time.
With Fuel as it is, despite the pullback in price, why run a larger engine when a 4 cyl will work just fine? YMMV.
PS all my racing is done on closed strips, never a public roadway (the way it should be, IMO).
