Thumbs up 04 TL Steering Wheel Vibration

Please Help!

I recently purchased an 04 TL used with 22K. It has 4 brand new Michelin Pilort Sport 17 inch tires. I noticed a vibration in the steering wheel over 70mph. I have had three regular tire balances and rotations. I have also had a fourth and expensive road force tire and wheel test. Everything checked out fine, but the vibration still occurs mainly between 70-85mph. Please help, I love the car but cant stand driving it on the highway. I am taking it in to the dealer to have it checked out, any advice would be great.

Thanks

With 22K on your vehicle, I doubt that anything major has worn out. However, there are a few other things that can make your steering wheel vibrate. This has happened to me. Have you had to make a long emergency stop where you locked up the tires? If your car doesn't have anti-lock brakes, this could actually flatten your tires on that area you stopped on. Another reason for the vibration may be from one or more of your tires being our of round. By that I mean the center of the tire isn't concentric with the outside tread.
There's an easy way to see if one of these scenarios is causing your vibrations. Jack up the car and place something flat close to the tire tread with a little gap, ie 1/4 inch, and spin the tire. Watch the gap for variations in the gap. All tires may have a 1/16th inch difference but if you have a flat spot or the tire is way out of round you will see it right away.

Hope this helps,
Neal

Also if you hit a pothole hard enough a small dent can be really annoying...especially at high speeds...
