Post HELP! I am in deep crankcase oil!

Theres the scenario:

I tuned up my 91 civic 1.5 DPFI AT with a used injector(car hesitated with acceleration, this used one fix the problem).
car idled a lil funny but ran ok.
I get up next morning convicted i should use the original 1 because it had better life on it.(the injector plastic tip was cracked so i glued).
car didnt start.
I put in the other one and nuthin happened.
i then put in the original one then after 15 seconds of cranking(max cranking @ 15 seconds) it slllooooowwwwlllyyyyy started to fire up.
After that, there was a knocking noise so i turned it off.
tried it 15 min later and it did start again but with the bad knocking, it was smoking like a chimney!

I pulled out the sparky's and they were all oil soped.

Please tell me this isnt the end of the road. this car has 82,223 miles on it, but i dont think the -before me- owners took care of it.

Ill take any advice, OTHER THAN JUNKING IT.

Hesistation on acceleration and oil on the plugs leads my educated guess to be that the intake valves are in need of some adjustment...

The reason for this is because of the oil on the plugs usually leads to valves and the slow acceleration leads to too much air coming in so they are probabaly not closing properly or the seats are worn...

the bad news is that even though it is less likely it could also be the compression rings...I hate to mention that because that is a complete rebuild scenario.
