1990 Acura Legend sedan, 5-speed, base model, 275k
Engine idles too high at start (1,200 - 2,500 RPM), takes too long to get to normal idle (800 - 900), and will idle higher even when warm. It doesn't surge (high, low, high, low); instead, it will just suddenly idle higher-than-normal, and then gradually idle goes down. The problem gets much worse in colder weather, but still tends to normalize as engine temperature increases. Checked computer, and code (14) seemed to suggest air/idle control valve. However, I have since replaced this part, reset, and problem persists. I have also cleaned the intake manifold using a chemical deposit remover. Engine is pretty well maintained, and this problem seems isolated. But I have not been able to pinpoint. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Rich 703-338-4868. |

Just a shot in the dark but a failing EGR valve can do this and not throw a diagnostic code.
The problem is that it is a rather pricey part to replace on a hunch. Nothing else has changed recently....moved....different gas station...another new driver using the car...
