Default Engine swap for an 89' prelude Si

I have knowledge of the D series honda engines but this is my first honda with a B series. I was wanting to switch my engine out for an H22 and I would like to know if somone could give me some info. on the swap.
I have also heard that I could switch out the head with a B18 and I would recieve impressive power gains but, Im just not sure which way I should go.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

H22 may work, but it is a heavier engine, so if you want a car with good handling I wouldn't recommend it.

What type of B series engine do you have?

B16?
B16a?
B22?

B20 non-vtec

You can do a GSR head swap and it will be a lot longer running, more reliable motor than the H. You can also get it to go a little bit faster with the same amount of money. However, my suggestion to you is get a JDM B20 VTEC and drop that into your car, motor mounts are all the same and it should be a straight forward swap.

Yall are wrong.

The 3rd gen prelude(88-91) has a b20a3/5, or b21a1. JDM motor is b20a. No VTEC.

This motor has NOTHING to do with the rest of the B series. It is NOT interchangeable with a b16/17/18/b20b/z

Motor mounts are NOT the same with the b20a, and any other b series. Nobody makes them. They would be custom.

If you want a swap, go for an h22. Check out this preludepower.com, look around. Azrace+machine recently made h22 mounts for this car.

An h22 will not adversely effect handling to any degree, it's something like 20 pounds heavier than the b20. And it sits really far back in the engine bay.

People have done a b16/b18 head swap. From what I understand, it's the same thing as an LS/Vtec, but you have to move/create 3 bolt holes. However, this isn't as beneficial as you thing. Thsese motors have a very strong tendency to throw a connecting rod(#3, usually) if revved over 7000. So you'd need custom cams for the head as well.

Boosting the b20 would be best. People are running 300+ on stock sleeves, they have thick iron sleeves from the factory, and stock internals can take 220 at the wheels, 240 with a perfect tune.

You can swap the H22 into the 3rd gen Preludes now. I am the project manager of the newly re-designed Billet H22 Engine Mounts Swap kit for the 88-91 Preludes.

Here are some pics of the mounts installed in a 3rd gen and the kit itself.
The Kit was produced from Arizona Race and Machine, but the project was brought to them from me. I organized everything and the first 60 orders, and I am still in the process with them finishing off other parts for the swap.

H22 Project Manager,

Sean
