Default Windshield--Gah!

When I first bought my Prelude in 2000, the windshield was cracked along the bottom within six months. It wasn't in the line of sight and didn't seem otherwise dangerous so I left it. Probably not smart, but....

Last year I finally got around to replacing it. Inside of a month the exact same crack appeared, maybe an inch above where the other one was, and it has the same shape, sort of like a flat rainbow.

What's up with that? Just bad luck, or is there some kind of issue with Preludes and windshields?

I've never heard of Prelude's having a windshield problem, but it does seem that yours has a case of bad luck. Maybe there is some kind of defect with your particular car that strains the glass? That's the only thing I can think of.

I do wonder, now that you mention it. The other weird thing is that there are a couple sections where the paint chips off in fingernail sized flakes. Mostly when we first got it, but after the paint job a couple more started (the dealership paid for new paint and a loaner, treatment I'm not used to).

Paint chipping off is due to the body being prepped wrong, if thats the part that was repainted.... they probably screwed something up.

Yeah, definitely sounds like something's wrong with your car specifically if the paints chipping like that. Get it checked over :/

Really! I wonder what the deal is, and if there's anything that can be done about it. Have you heard about anything we can do, 01?

You might try searching the web for any Prelude recalls. Most of the time you would get a notification if a recall goes out, but sometimes they don't get sent out like they should or just don't get to you for any number of reasons. I'm pretty sure that there are a few websites that keep up with such things.

Oh yeah, huh? Good advice by you. Thanks! While I'm there I'll cehck for the chipping paint problem, too.

Other than that, my lude ahs been so awesome. I just read in another post that there is a rumor going around that they are bringing them back with 300hp (civic nation psoted). I was ticked purple!

I've heard of this happening in 4th gens due to rust around the windshield. The expansion of the rust will push on the glass until it cracks. Either that or your car has been in an accident of some sort and the frame is twisted slightly. Then the strain of driving could cause the crack. Two possible reasons, no cheap and easy answer on what to do. Good luck.
