Tires on Prelude - HondaClub.com

I was told by a dealership that I absolutely had to have a certain kind of tire for the Prelude. I can't remember what it was, but those tires were hard rubber, and I already had some trouble in the past with hydroplaning. I ended up buying a softer tire (which I ma much happier with) at another store because the dealership wouldn't even consider putting them on. They refused.

This was fine, because going to a tire store saved me a ton and the softer tires help my stability a bit at high speeds (don't ask, haha).

But I was just wondering what was up with that from the dealership. Were they just trying to make another few bucks off another "stupid woman"? Or is there something to this?

I'm sure you're right--I went back to talk to them about the tires and see exactly what brand, etc., and they wouldn't even tell me. The guy said, "They're black. They're what Honda tells us to put on them."

It made me mad, but it's funny in a way, too.

sorry i can imagine that you got agitated but thats the funniest thing I've heard in a long time. black tires. what a loon.

Isn't that hysterical? I was pretty angry for awhile, but now I love to tell the story. :-)

tryin to get more $$$$ in their pockets, they try pullin crap like that here on women all the time.......i had a buddy tell me that they charged his wife for a extra quart of oil cause they had to put it in the filter before they could install it.....wtf? but ya, softer tires ftw!

Lordy, that's funny! But it does suck eggs, too. I'm also an easy target because my Prelude is my baby (now that my kids are grown

). So if someone says, "This doohickey fell off the thingamagig and your car is going to die in two hours if we don't put it back along with a new nitemorspo and a good cleaning of the chickenlips on the metrovalve to try to correct damage already done to the jumbo plidge," I'll say, "Oh my god save my baby! Do it!"

Bleh.

Another reason they could have told you only certain tires is that they didn't want to deal with mounting another brand of tire on top of the fact that they probably have commission on that brand they were saying you needed. The more low profile the tire, the harder it is to mount. The stock prelude tires are not the greatest tires either, hard compound and they don't handle very well. (OEM Bridgestone RE92's)
