Default PGM-FI light 87 Prelude 2.0

So I have a 1987 Honda Prelude 2.0 SI and the PGM-FI light came on. So we looked up the code, it gave us 12 so we figured the EGR valve needed to be cleaned... a new part is like 270 dollars... we had a automotive place we know clean it and the light still comes on. Our car does not surge or die when we stop... The light only comes on when the car is warmed up and has been driving for 10-15 minutes. Do I need to reset the ECU or just completely change the EGR valve? this thing is preventing us from doing emissions so any help would be great!

my friends 87 accord lxi has the same problem
but his pgm-fi light only comes on when he's reving his engine way to high like more than 5k but the car works fine
one thing you could try is cleaning out your gas tank so you'll know you have clean gas
just wait till it's running real low and then drain it

you can try resetting the ecu but I dont think it would help
do you know how to reset it?

Default Same Problem

I've got the same car (87 Prelude Si 2.0). The PGM F1 light has been on for years. I never had a problem so I've ignored it. I'd love to make it go away. Where do I find the codes, and where do I look up what they mean?

well on my friends accord his ecu is under the drivers seat
so with the car on just look for a blinking red light and count how many times it blinks
it will blink for a number of times then stop, then start blinking again, the number of blinks is the code number

so if it blinks 5 times then it's code 5 get it
