Default 89 prelude 2.0 SI Valve clatter...

My last motor threw a rod, so I replaced it with a junk yard motor. Car runs real good (for what it is) but has a bit of what sounds like valve clatter. The oil that was in it was extreamly clean. I gave it a full tune up.

Also......When in stop and go traffic, it tries to rev up to 2000 rpm with the clutch down, but I can pull the pedal up and it stays down till the next time I touch the accelerator.

And... Sometimes after short trips and sitting for an hour, it refuses to start.

I'm starting to hate this car.....Please help me if you can.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply.
I'm used to old chevys so I had no idea that I could adjust the valves on this thing. I'll lube the cable and see also....Yesterday in traffic it started to rev up and down on its own.

I think I bought a possesed piece of crap.

Thanks again!

Running up and down sounds like a vacuum leak, check all your lines. Could also be a sticking idle control valve.
I also think I remember something with these older preludes about some coolant leaking into the throttle body and gumming it up. I think there was a recall or something, but just clean out the throttle body good and see if that helps.

I remember that hot engine refuses to start problem, too. I think it had something to do with the cold start injector or something simple. Wish hondaprelude.com was still around, all this stuff was posted on there!
I'll try to remember...
