Its because people are stupid...really friggin stupid. In most places, the law is self defense and whoever throws the first whatever is viewed in the wrong. I work with a guy that had something like that happen to him. He pulled over right in front of the courthouse in some po-dunk town...there were cops all over the place. The dude got out of his car and pushed the guy I know on the shoulder. My buddy proceeded to wipe his ass all over the sidewalk with cops and civilians as witnesses (he's 6'7" former airborne ranger). After he was done, he walked away as the cops came up and arrested the other dude for disorderly conduct. They just nodded to my friend.
