What's the deal with the 95 Civic? Was that a good year or something? Or maybe it's the most widely owned vehicle? I'm a little surprised because you can't sell a 95 Civic for as much as a newer model in any other vehicle. And, I would think that a used part on a 95 Civic is not that useful. But what do I know....Any car thieves here care to enlighten me.
Thursday, Jul 10, 2008 @09:00am CST Top Stolen Cars For 2007 (Des Plaines, IL) -- For the second year in a row, the 1995 Honda Civic tops the list of most stolen vehicles in America. The National Insurance Crime Bureau has released its annual report of the hottest vehicles for auto thieves in 2007. After the '95 Civic, the 1991 Honda Accord is second, followed by the 1989 Toyota Camry. It's the second year in a row both those vehicles have finished in the same position. Three of the next four slots on the list are pickup trucks from Ford, Chevy and Dodge. The study shows the theft of older models has remained consistent for several years. Experts say that's because the older cars are good for the stolen parts market. FBI data shows auto theft declined last year by about nine-percent. Last edited by Tomas; 07-10-2008 at 12:15 PM. |

I'd have to halfway agree with PrimeTime, the car is easy to steal, considering that since its 13 years old and an "econobox" that a lot of people won't take the time to lock them, and even then, the lack of power locks on most models make it really easy to slim jim the locks even if they are locked. Chances are they won't have an alarm system (factory or aftermarket) either. Starting them is easier too with OBD-II starting in 96 vs the OBD-I system in the 95's and older.
As far as reliability, you're right there, because a lot of them are still on the road. That means they need parts. Most of these cars get chopped and parted out. Just try pricing a distributor on one of these cars...it'll give you an idea of what you're dealing with as far as parts prices on these cars. Stock parts are even more expensive than aftermarket most of the time. Just a hunch ;-) |

Its because it has the coolest body style
LOL... I saw that article also and wondered the same thing I own a 95 civic and I will tell you they are easy to break into (ive locked my keys in there about a million times) Also, I remember reading an article not to long ago saying something about people dropping B18s in the 92-95 bodies and were being stolen for that engine and tranny combo..... not cool. Thieves please leave my car alone Plus I just think with it being easy to get into, thieves see aftermarket parts as easy access and fast cash.... again not cool, get a job...losersAnd yes, they are really reliable. I have 215,000 on original engine and tranny. Its only little things I had to replace: cooling fan motor(and subsequently my head gasket) Alternator, and ignition coil Last edited by Lawless28; 07-10-2008 at 04:31 PM. |

Actually, marcos is right. Look at all the people out there with tricked out EGs. Tons of 'em with B18s and K20s. They're hot cars. The other big one is the 1998 Integra. As for the Accord and Camry... easy picks.
