Personally, I think it's because it's quick, it's easy, it's older, it's cheaper, etc. They're easier to disassemble and part out. They're easy to make quick money off of. There are so many people out here that boost those cars, it's unbelievable. They boost them, swap the vins and they're gone. It's like that car never existed. They're one of the easiest cars to break into... being that I have a 95 Civic EG hatch... AND a DelSol no less. Both, easy cars to bust open.

They're fast enough to get away, small enough to hide, easy enough to sell and part out... why wouldn't someone take them? Not to mention their more fuel efficient than most and they're reliable. Nowadays, with the gas prices rapidly rising, you'll see more Honda's and Toyo's being stolen. It's upsetting, but it's reality.

Your right on that. it's only going to get worse before it gets better. now it's 95 civics, then it will be the FIT, then on to the hybrids until they are replaced by something else. it's all a matter of time before the focus shifts

Definitely. Hybrids are the next target, I'm sure. People used to steal Escalades, here... they were a status symbol or something... now they're switching to Geo Metros and EG's.

Here in GA they don't really fake VIN plates anymore, its too easy to get caught....

With other cars that'll make it past 300k with few problems

We've got a few regular customers that have some

92 C1500 4.3L auto 493k (dead)
00 Tahoe 5.3L 377k
02 Trailblazer 4.2L 403k
Numerous diesels the highest I've seen is 485k
We've got a few W and N bodies in the high 200s (w=regal, lumina, monte carlo, impala, grand prix ect....n=grand am, malibu, cutlass ect...)\

Oh, and I've actually seen an 05 Aveo with 399k but that doesn't count because they're made by Daewoo.

it's hard to steal a turbo hatch... you cant start or turn the ignition over with out a key to disarm the turbo timer

They probably do steal them for the parts, or resale. They dont' have to drive the car away to steal it. Too many times people have seen flat beds pull up. . . drag the car on the back and it's GONE!!
