Default MPG

I've been doing some reading on this "hypermile" idea and i realized that i had been doing that for a while just didn't know that there was a name for it, so it led me to ask the question
How do you all do on your MPG? city/highway?

Acura advertised my car at 23/31, but i ended up getting a LOT better like 25 city and 42 highway.

i've never heard of 'hypermile' before. just read up on it on wikipedia. that's probably why i've never been able to get the mpg advertised by the manufacturer.

My driving style fluctuates a lot, I've gotten between 18 and 35 mpg on my Si. Bike stays in mid 40s no matter how I ride it.

this article i read about a hypermile contest out west somewhere focused on this guy that used a friends insight to get over 100mpg. In the article he talked about his wifes MDX where he was able to get almost 600 miles to a tank, it's crazy but hey it saves money i guess in the long run.

That's just nuts. If you're so damn concerned about gas mileage then don't drive. Take the train or the bus. Oh well I guess it's kind of madness that people follow to get as much power as possible. And to be honest it's not like any of the high power tuners are any better. Look how many people swap out their engines to pass emissions. So I can see where these hypermilers are coming from.

I had a TA over winterim that had a certain t-shirt he liked to wear. It had a picture of a bicycle on it. Underneath was a picture of a gas pump with an infinity symbol on each side (like on a new car window sticker, city and highway mileage). THAT is hypermiling.

I've been guessing around 20 mpg on my Sil-Eighty (with a flame throwing tune and a broken odometer) and my mileage fluctuated on my Integra between 24 and 35 mpg.

Hypermiling can help milage, but its more important not to impede the flow of traffic and cause road rage.

Sure, accelerating at a snail's pace and doing a constant low speed will save you gas, but you're still a jerk for blocking traffic, and probably increasing overall gas usage due to all the people getting pissed off and gunning it to pass you.

I agree that you shouldn't block traffic or impead the flow, thats just rude, I'm not one to do that but taking it easy (driving safe) and saving the racing for the track has helped me a lot. I don't agree with shutting the engine off while driving down the road, nor do i agree with not breaking and cutting corners, nor do i agree with walking pace accelerations, but i do agree with getting the best MPG possible. With prices of gas going up, and american dollar going down, for some familys getting to work daily is beggining to be a battle.
The question on this thread was not "do you hypermile?", it was "what do you get or mpg?" just to see how your cars perform EPA wise.
True public transportation would cut down someones own fuel cost, but what if you live in an area like Augusta, Maine where there is no real public transportaion (unless you are really old and being cared for by the state).
again the question was not "do you hypermile?" or "what do you think of hypermile?", it was "what's your mpg?"
