wow, alright so i was just reading online that the Delorean Motor Company is going to start making cars again. The original DMC-12 (back to the future car) last rolled off the line back in 1982 because the company went under so no more where made, but I found a bunch of pics of the new Delorean coming out, Still looks sleek with a big price tag around $57,000. and only a handfull are going to be put out a month but still I wish i could get my hands on an original. Nothing for performance, but it is a beautiful car.
just though i'd share |

Actually...These new cars are original.
I'm a huge fan of the DMC-12. If you dig deep under the crappy Renault engine and John Z DeLorean's idiocy, you will see a very cool car. The technology is amazing by today's standards, revolutionary for the 1980s. I want to find a DMC-12 with a blown motor or has been painted (ie wrecked), ditch the Renault V6 and drop in an NSX engine and transmission. THAT car won't need a flux capacitor for time warp. Anyway, the "new" cars are actually just the old cars. When DMC went under, they just halted production, and had hundreds of parts left over. A company in Texas bought all the leftover stock a few years ago to help out DeLorean fans trying to keep their cars original. After a few years demand was highe enough that they decided to just build the cars. So technically, these cars alrady classics. But how do you date a car whose parts were manufactured before 1982 and assembled in 2008? Yikes. Still very cool, the world needs more cars like the DeLorean. Kcuf civility, gas mileage, and luxury. Build a car that's just plain FUN!!! It doesn't even need to be fast, just cool!

The Renault engine had about 150 hp (US). The NSX makes 270. And the car weighs 2700 pounds. That's as heavy as my Silvia. And the stock KA24 makes 100 hp, so the DMC-12 is faster stock. Add in the new engine, some better tires, and coilovers, you've got a pretty quick little car. And one that just looks killer.

that is ture that the DMC-12 just haulted production (i guess thats what happens when the big man gets caught selling coke to save his company). and Yes the car is awesome. I've been looking around and there is a company out of texas. I think the link is Delorean One that sells parts and refurbishes them to be sold. But the price is outstanding!
Nice Idea on the motor swap. after looking at the specs it is under powered with the original motor in it; I can only second your notion that speed is not important. . . . FUN is the factor |

The DMC-12 is one of the few cars that I WILL own in my life. Lots I would love to have, but I can't die until I have owned a DeLorean. There are about 4 around here that make the classic car circuit every year. There are about 2 or 3 that show up for the British Car Show and maybe 4 for the Hagley Classic Car Show (my Integra made it to that one the last 2 years. First Honda there ever).

I wish I could get my hands on one, but i doubt that if i did i coule keep it original. Knowing me i'd be trying to put a Mr. Fusion on the back of it and adding a FLUX, with time circuits. . .LOL. . . .
