Default some people just can't talk cars

I think everyone here has been in the same situation where they'll be talking about cars and then someone else tries to jump in and nothing he says amounts to a hill of beans.
here's my story:

There are a group of us talking one day about our cars and things we'd like to do to them and just minor stories about things we've seen at the track. This one guy walks up and listens for a bit and starts going around the group asking "so what do you drive". . . "RSX-S, Integra GSR, Civic Si, RSX, RX8" are his replies. He says "cool, cool, but i think i have you all beat!". we all kind of just looked at him and were like "alright, we'll bite, what do you drive?". the start of his reply is what caught us the most, but what followed shocked us more. "I have a 2004 Celica GT-S. . . " a brief pause. i kicked and asked "isn't the starting HP on that about 185?". . . "Yeah, well not mine, i've done some modifications to it". . another guy speaks up "what did you do to it?". . and this is what got us. "I put in a twin turbo motor from a 98 Supra, a 4-2-1 racing header" and thats where he stopped. I had to ask "how did you put a RWD motor and Tranny in a FWD car?". . now at about this time everyone was laughing, but in a straight face this guy says. "Oh i didn't put a RWD tranny in, the stock tranny bolted right. . . IT HAULS". So as you can see we've all ready determined that this guy was full of it and we as a group started to tear the story apart. Now every time i see this guy around work i'll say "Hey man whats goin' on?" and he'll just walk by without saying anything more.
This only comes up because now i'm deployed again and we were just at the chow hall and this guy ended up sitting with us and brought up cars again. He asked what my plans were for my car, and if i've found any good deals and so forth all friendly conversation, until he tried explaining i-vtec as added allowable RPMs to a non-car guy. Trust me i didn't leave that other guy in the wind, i explained VTEC to the best of my ability to him and dropped a couple of "Honda Tuning" magazines off to him with articles about the how it all operates. This guy is trying to get into the tuning world so i thought i'd help him out of the bull that was being pushed on him.

sounds like i'm ranting but just thought i'd share

Tuning Truth Number 1: Most people don't know jack about cars. To the F&F crowd (aka RICCERS!) tuning is just a fad. It's just like yo-yos and pokemon. Those guys aren't car guys. They will watch Formula D beacuse it's the big thing. They buy a bunch of pretty parts and make a flashy car that sucks. The they try to pass off their bull onto other people as truth. But we know better. The thing about Race over Rice is that Racers can have ricey looking cars too. And some Ricers have really fast cars. But it's all about what you know that really separates you from the herd. It's our job to kill myths before they become too big. TNT, great job on telling the guy at your hall what VTEC really is. I do that kind of thing a lot too.

Now i'm not going to blow smoke up anyones rear ends, and say I"M A RACER! hell, i've only been to the drag strip twice, and i dont' have planes on making my ride a race car. . .I like it, it handles great right now, my wife and kids love it just the way it is, I know my information about my ride, I know the history and so forth, but i'm going to call it when it sounds like bull. My friends they are big tuners though. Most of them work in shops and have done tons to their cars, This deployment in the eyes of one is the money to complete his car. . good for him. . .for me, i just learn as much as i can and do my research and i don't always stick to Honda, i'll ready about any car. . . it's my hobby (cars that is)

You could substitute car guy and racer as almost equal terms. I'm a racer, so that's how I think. If it wasn't for racing I wouldn't be a car guy. Ricers will also say they are car guys. I suppose we need a term to describe someone who likes cars but isn't a racer or ricer.

I'd like to add that car guy also means car girl. Saying car guy is shorter than car guy/girl.

Fiction: Body kits make your car more aerodynamic. You get more speed and save gas. The decrease in weight significantly improves car handling and speed. (Speed <-- theres the magic word again...)

Fact: Body kits are the worst thing for your car. The larger surface area
increases drag and slows you down, forcing you to press harder on the gas pedal and using up more fuel. Also, when they advertise light weight, it means if the bumper would be as big as your stock one, it would weight less, but since it's 2 or 3... even 4x bigger in some cases, it really comes down to the same weight.

*Note - My "analogies" are based on full kits, like the F&F ones. Lips are not included because they have been race proven.

I PERSONALLY know some people that don't know what they are talking about but still try to get into a conversation. I just shrug the tards off.

Well this kid tried to tell one of my friends that his stage 3 turbo kit doesn't kick in until 3rd gear.. Another time a kid told the same friend that he has a twin turbo prelude.. He said he took the motor out of a twin turbo 3000gt and put it into the prelude. We both just rolled. its amazing how smart people try to act when only it makes them look even more stupid.
