I like to talk about cars with some of the lads i work with, they seem like you lot in the fact that they know there stuff, were as me, I don't know anything, but I am open about that, I see it this way, I never had anyone to influence me in the joys of cars growing up, so I never bothered looking into them, all I knew is I liked the looks of certain ones and I was always happy enough.
This has changed now, after a nice lady drove into my 206 I decided that I would go for a better car, so I asked all the people I knw who are into cars and got a few of them just telling me to get specific models as they are fast or they look good, I soon came to realize that these people didn't have a clue what they were talking about so I ignored there suggestions. After all that asking around I decided to go and talk to a few mechanics, and they were really helpfull, they never tryed to force me to buy there fave cars, they actually asked me what I wanted from a car and then gave me suggestions, this ended up to be a good thing though as now I know that most people out there haven't got a clue what they are talking about and just make it up as they go along, so I fully understand why these people start to annoy people like you lot, if I had took the advise they had given me I would now be the proud owned of a fuel guzzling POS that I would have had to have spent all my cash on every month to keep on the road. I have really took the long road to getting my point across, but what I mean is, if people don't know what they ae talking about, they should not give advise, and like me they should be open about the fact that they don't know much about cars and do a little research. Plus, if you are going to lie about your knolage on a subject, don't go doing it to people who actualy know there stuff. |

i guess those type of people are every where. I had this one guy tell me about a year ago that DOCH VTEC doesn't use 16 vavles, it only used 12 (butterfly system). and he tried to tell me that anything on a honda that said 16 vavle was a marketing ploy.
I know better from doing a few rebuilds, and working in a garage before i joined the army and i tried to correct him, because yes there are some cars that used a 12 vavle system (like the toyota tercel), but all this guy wanted to do was fight with me, i couldn't believe this guy actually wanted to fight over it. . . some people though i guess |

Compacts tend to be broken into race or rice (we are talking about compacts on a honda forum right?). Hot rodders are either restorers, hot rodders, or street rodders. Truck guys are either four-wheelers or slammers. and then there are the people who think every car should be a hybrid (LS/VTEC doesn't count). I would be a racer, hot rodder, four-wheeler. It depends on what kind of car you're talking about.

well the thread was a general thing it wasn't about any one car or truck. . . but there a lot of groups when you are talking cars. but back to this thread and what i was talking about originally is that some people just like to BS there way through conversations and make themselves look like morons

Sorry, I didn't know you were speaking generally. My bad. There's this guy on the SAE team here that thinks he's hot stuff b/c he goes autocrossing and his dad pays for his bimmer. We took out our old racecar and ran it around a parking lot for a few hours last weekend. He had been complaining about how he had missed the last driving day and was whining about how we needed more (but never shows up to work on the new car). Anyway, he finally gets out on the track and starts hitting cones left and right. Every other lap he would hit the same cone in the same slalom. When he got out of the car he said "I was trying to cut it just a little bit closer," to which we replied "how much closer do you get to hitting it?" Then we sent him out to run the course and fix every single cone he took out. So even guys on racing teams are full of crap.

no harm no foul; But thinking about it, you get those people in every part of life. I see it a lot in the army. War Stories is what we call them, most of the time these guys are made fun of and then left alone to take in all their own glory. Some Times you get the people that will tag along with them, their loss. . .

Lol I could be considered a hot rodder, race, and a 4x4 guy. But anyways yeah this kid and I were in a fight. He thinks that he knows every thing about Honda (yet again he blew the headgasket in his old civic). Anyway he was telling me to look videos up of what we were argueing about on youtube. I'm like lol thats a real credible source.. I guess he missed that part in history and english. I told him I personally don't care about what you find on youtube bcuz there could be several things on it that could affect the results 1. theres a possiblity the driver just cant drive lol. 2. One car is more than likely way more modded than the other. 3. Of course they are only gunna post the videos of them winning to make theirselves look cool lol.

In the town where I spent my late teens/ early 20s, there was one spot on the boulevard where people would line up their cars on Friday nights (kind of an impromptu show) It always made me chuckle when people would roll up in a bright orange, neon lit, kitted-up, eurolighted Eclipse and talk about all the "mods" they've done. When anyone would mention whats under the hood, it was always "Thats what I'm gonna work on next".
There was one car that I wished everyone else would've learned from. My buddy Brandon has a 1978 Celica Supra. Worked on it forever. It didnt even run for about the first year. Stock wheels, stock body, even stock white paint. But he had a lot of dough in that chassis and motor and it woulda stomped on every one of those gaudy little showboaters. |
