I love my digital speedometer w/ shift light, as far as digital dashes I think you're right, especially since there is less room without the A-Pillar to use. There are also HUDs developing.

The GT-R is a start. And the dashes can do everything. The one on the University racecar does all the gauge functions, laptimes, lap speed, and can datalog everything. It's pretty awesome and wiring it was a piece of cake.
