Street racing is possible one of the stupidest things you can do with a car (other than drive drunk)
OMG look how fast my economy car is, I love to drive in a straight line "really fast" (well, as fast as my slow car will take me) and see if other people might come across my path in the dark and die, possible killing me in the process. As a rider I have absolutely ZERO tolerance for people driving beyond safe limits on the street. Seriously, go to a drag strip if you feel as if you have something to prove, or you could even consider going to a real track and learn some real driving.

Ain't that the truth. Unfortunately, most people who drive fast don't know what their limits are and are the ones who get hurt or hurt others. Oh, and hang up your cell phone too. Talking on a phone (even handsfree) is as bad as driving drunk.

Kinda like how the new Need For Speed is a track only game. Takin it off the streets. FATF should do something similar, and show guys dominating the track scene or something. TAKE IT OFF THE STREETS

How about someone do leagl street racing? The city closes off some section of road and holds races. They charge admission and make a pile of money. They have ambulances and NASA or SCCA rules, winners get some cash. It's the same thing but legal. Here in DE, there are no tracks (Dover does NOT count), and the closest SCCA stuff is 50 miles away, so I think this would be a great idea.

It's been done. I read in HOTROD that in Arizona they close off a section of street and set up a christmas tree. Besides, they do that for Champ Car races in Vegas and Long Beach. I think it could be done if some thought and planning was put into it (just like any other event).
Rallying's fun and they do road rallys in SCCA. But rallying can get really hariy and you need a dedicated car. Rallys tend to eat cars. |
