I have only owned hondas my entire life.. im up to the s2k.. is the nsx really better then it. If i were to buy an nsx i could only afford the early 90's models so thats what im comparing it to.
Has anyone here owned both? Having a car that redlines at 9k is probably the most fun i have ever had. My godfather has a porsche 911 and thinks the s2000 is more fun to drive.. not necisarilly faster but more fun. So what i wanted to kno is will it be the same with the nsx... Its obviously more faster .. but is it more fun to drive and ultimly is it worth it. I never really have been in one or seen the interior... The s2k's interior is beautiful all digital... buying a car from the early 90's might be a downgrade.. What do you guys think? |

The NSX was the closest thing to a Honda F1 car back in the day. It was built from an all aluminum frame (a first for any production car), and had a high revving VTEC engine, which still sets the benchmark for NA horsepower/liter ratio. Like the S2K, most mods to the NSX will result in no power gains, or even a power loss. Chassis tuning was tested by Ayrton Senna himself, who signed off on the chassis design. Probably what made the NSX so successful was not it's perfromance, but the reliability that came with it. It was as reliable and comfortable as an Accord. And for all this, the NSX could be had for less than half of any of its competitiors. Ferrari, Lambroghini, and McLaren all went running back to the drawing boards to match the NSX's traits.
If you compare Acura to Ferrari, the NSX is the Enzo, and the S2000 is the 360 Modena. Sure, the 360 is almost as fast and has better technology, but it doesn't make people say "Daaaayyyyyuummm" quite the same way. I'd go for the NSX in a heartbeat. Just because the gauges are analog doesn't mean that the car is any less luxurious. It's at least on par with the S2K if not better (well it was when it was new. Now you will probably have to deal with aging leather, which isn't fun or cheap. If you're really serious about buying an NSX, find one with a good interior). |

JP,
I dont think you'll get a lot of posts here from NSX owners. You'll probably want to go to the NSX club forum and I bet a lot of them have owned both. They might be able to tell you more. You have a beautiful s2k, I was looking at NSXs at one point and decided that I could either have an NSX with a lot of mileage at my maximum price point, or have something like an s2k and stick all the goodies on it for quite a bit less. Really, to get a nice, clean, well taken care of late 98 to early 00's NSX your looking at 40-50k with about 30-50k miles. Also consider that if you do want to upgrade it, parts are 2 or 3 times more expensive than the s2k (aftermarket for sure, probably also parts from Honda). For example the Comptech Supercharger is around 10-12 grand if I recall. Also think about other costs and see if its a good investment for you long term. Super cars are super expensive. Unfortunately there is nothing super about the performance of their 90s versions anymore because as time goes on all of these cars are getting more efficient and are producing more power due to better engineering. If you like having that high redline that makes your feel like your on a bike than in a car, the 90s NSX might not be what you are looking for. They have 260 hp at a redline of 6.6k. You could whip up on one of these with a lightly tuned s2k all day long. In the early 00's they bumped it to 290 hp at a redline of 7.1k. Still its not 9 grand, but its got some reasonable horspower at this point and the additional torque provided by a bigger engine. (With a supercharger running 6-10 lbs, you could out perform this newer model in an s2k) So to really get that extra umph that you are looking for you'd probably want the model upgrade which will be reflected in their price points. At the end of the day, its going to be a balance between your wallet and looks.
