Hi, I'm new to the forum. Interested in starting a local Honda / Acura car club in NE Indiana area. I've competed in SCCA Solo competition in my 1986 Honda Civic Si since November of 1985. I put 450,000 original hard miles on my first 1986 Civic Si. The car has been in Grassroots Motorsports, and the North American Pylon magazine. In 1995 I had the floor replaced, and in 1999 I converted the car from Stock to Street Touring. In 1999 the car won the Evansville Indiana, Meridiana Mississippi, and Pikes Peak SCCA National Tours. I finished 2nd overall at the 1999 ProSolo Finale, and took 4th at Nationals that year. At the 1999 Nationals I realized the car was still suffering from severe rust. At the 2000 Nationals, Renee Eady asked me if I wanted to buy her 1986 Civic Si (a Southern car with almost no rust), she had already prepped it for Street Touring, but wanted to build something newer for next season. Over the Winter of 2000 a price was negotiated, and Renee agreed to deliver the car halfway to my friend Rob Carpenter in Knoxville Tennessee. In February of 2000, I drove my wife and daughter to Knoxville, put the Civic on the tow dolley and brought it home. The car was yellow (Maco Paint Job, I think), but was originally White when Jean Kinser owned it.
Over the Winter of 2000, I stripped the car down, and hired Rob Hawk of
Race Paint USA to custom paint the car, and my helmet to match. He did an excellent job! I also removed the Power Steering (it had an Accord Power Steering Rack and pump), that shed 50 lbs! I also hooked up the front sway bar (it was held on with zip ties), and added a rear sway bar. I also put a better Momo steering wheel on it. The car is very competitive, but need to lighten it up more, and try better tires for 2007.
I also own an mostly Rust-free 1987 Honda CRX Si. It is Silver, and I bought it in 2004 (I think) in Evansville Indiana. It is a Texas car so there isn't much rust. I am currently building it into an STS2 Solo car.
