Default Tranny grinds in reverse...

I have an automatic 91 GS Integra. The motor has been swapped with another that had lesser miles but the tranny still is original with 205,000+ on it. About a week ago it started to grind in reverse but would catch. Now it just grinds in reverse and now sometimes in park. Can you guys give me some pointers here or do I just have to do the obvious which is replace the tranny. Thanks

Autos are very complicated and one old part can cause a cascade of failures. Your trans will need a rebuild, there's no way of getting around it. Rebuilding will be cheaper than replacing it and the trans will be like new. However, if you can drive stick or want to learn, now would be the best time to swap in a manual. Manual rebuilds are a lot cheaper and with Hondas they tend to also last a lot longer (I have one with 270K miles and it has had nothing but regular maintainence).

I have to agree with Beaters. Either a rebuild or a new tranny. Just don't wait to long since I know you don't wanna be left on the side of the road.

That all depends on where you live. I know around south Louisiana I can get it rebuilt bullet proof for about $2000. It mostly the labor that kills you. For all high performance parts cost about $800 and thats at cost. So its not very cheap it you really wanna BUILD the tranny.

Never owned an auto. So I don't know the price. 2 grand sounds about rght though. If you're mostly street driving than a standard rebuild is all you need and it will be a bit cheaper.
