stick/auto
Ok my friend has a standard engine and tranny running 120K and the car is an automatic tranny. he wants to practice shifting betwen gears before moving to a manual. Can he shift between D4,D3,2,1 like a stick as mentioned in the owners manual or will it do more good than harm to his current tranny. He wasnt quite sure cuz he was told that is does hurt the tranny but by his interpretation by honda dealers he got tat it has no effect on the tranny....but then again dont they always want some thing to go wrong so they can get money out of u for repairs??? Any info would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!!

It is not wise to shift an auto like a stick! One of the reasons it is there is for manual control in situations like pulling a trailer up or down a hill or driving on extremely slippery surfaces to aide in control!
If he wants practice find a ford p.o.s. for cheap and just play with it.

or he could just borrow a friend's vehicle who he doesn't like much, that is stick shift

well ive never driven a stick... :'( i wanna learn how so bad my friend that had a beater civic was gunna teach me but he blew the head gasket
