Default whistling noise at idle

Hello eveyone! I'm new to the board

My question is this: I have a 97 intergra, it's a base model so I guess it's a LS? It's been whistling while I'm at an idle, It will diapear when I step in the gas. I know it does because I looked under the hood and when I pulled on the throtle cable the noise went away. What could be causing this? Is this a vacum lead somewhere? I haven't noticed any power loss or fuel economy loss.

Hi

I don't know the answer to this, but I did some research, and I only found one other case of this, and in that case the owner thought it was his timing belt (he was at 101k miles)

hopefully one of our more mechanically adept members will have a better solution soon

Default thanks

thanks for the heads up. I'll give my mechanic a call and ask them. I don't want to lose the timing belt.

It could be a number of things. It does sound like a vacuum leak at first though.

hmmm. I have the same problem. as the motor is warming up it whistles hard. I just installed a skunk2 intake manifold, and I know the cold air whistles a bit, is it cause of the manifold? If it is a vacuum leak, any ideas what one? Its always sumthing..

wow, good question surfnakd !!! whistling noises should always first be trouble-shot with the belts, ensuring the tension on them is properly adjusted. I suspect it's pneumatic, a vacuum leak. but it's difficult to know which one without putting an ear on it.

let us know what you find please !!!

One way to test for a vacuum leak is to spray some throttle body cleaner on the lines. When the engine surges, you found your leak. It sounds like a vacuum leak to me.
