hybrids are great and all but it can take up to 5 years to show any savings on gas because the price diif on the car exta 5g's is alot of money

Yeah, 5K is a lot of money, but don't forget the tax incentives that actually amount to more than that in some cases (depends on where you live methinks).

My sister is getting 60 mpg on her hybrid (her latest report to me).

It sounds like there's a lot to look into when you're looking to get a hybrid, I'll have to talk all the options into consideration.

Okay, what exactly is a hybrid car? I get the idea that it runs on gas and electricity but how does it work? and if it's so fuel efficient why don't more people buy hybrid cars?

My sister's switches modes, and this is how I understand it: when the car is charged up, she's on electric power, but when the battery runs down, the car starts itself. When the battery is charged up again, it stalls the engine and she runs on electricity again.

The brakes are also unusual, and the friction feeds the battery along with the engine when it's running. Also, if you demand a lot of power after sitting at a light, the engine will come on immediately and give you power. I know it sounds iffy, but we chased a tornado in it and the power was there right now. And we needed it several times.

That's about all I can tell you, since I don't own one or do research. Anyone else explain it better? Or did I goof up?
