Default American Honda Sells One Millionth Vehicle With Factory-Installed XM Satellite Radio

WASHINGTON, May 10, 2006 -- XM Satellite Radio, America's number-one satellite radio company with more than 6.5 million subscribers, today announced that American Honda Motor Co. recently sold its one-millionth vehicle with a factory-installed XM Satellite Radio, extending XM's leadership position in the new automobile market.

American Honda is rapidly increasing the availability and volume of Honda and Acura vehicles with XM Satellite Radio. American Honda will equip more than 550,000 of its 2006 model year vehicles with XM. Honda introduced its first factory-installed XM vehicles in 2003.

"American Honda is pleased to join with our strategic partner XM Satellite Radio in celebrating the sale of our one millionth vehicle with factory- installed XM," said John Mendel, senior vice president of automobile operations, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "XM provides our customers with an enormous variety of entertainment and information as they travel from coast to coast, and XM NavTraffic is critical to our advanced navigation capabilities."

"Honda is one of the world's most successful automakers, and our partnership with American Honda is a fundamental part of XM's success. This milestone underscores how XM is the leading provider of satellite radio for the automobile industry, as well as the market leader in satellite radio overall," said Hugh Panero, president and CEO, XM Satellite Radio.

XM is a factory-installed feature on the 2006 models of Motor Trend's Car of the Year Honda Civic and Truck of the Year Honda Ridgeline, as well as other Honda models, including Pilot, Accord, Accord Hybrid, Odyssey, and Element. In addition, XM is standard, factory-installed equipment on all Acura RL, TL, TSX and MDX models. Acura recently announced that XM will also be a factory-installed standard feature of the all-new 2007 Acura RDX Sport Utility Vehicle.

In addition to offering XM in a broad range of Honda and Acura vehicles, Acura was the first automaker to offer XM NavTraffic, the award-winning traffic data service that provides real-time traffic information for vehicle navigation systems, in the RL luxury performance sedan. XM NavTraffic is a factory-installed feature of all 2006 Acura RL vehicles, and it will also be available on the all-new 2007 Acura RDX this summer.

XM Radio Online gives you unlimited access to over 80 channels of amazing programming, which is of added advantage in a car...this is the way to go about it. It seems this is another reason why Hondas will continue to consolidate their market..their cars are multi-equipped with all that a drive needs..

GM does the same with their cars...however, the problem is that XM is losing money consistently. People are using the free subscriptions and then dropping them.

i prefer sirius, its more reliable to me, and they also have a great ammount of channels. some people look at what comes "with" the car rather than the "car: itself, i really dont think satelite radio is that big of a deal

I personally would not buy a car because it has a cool radio and IMO it's not really that cool a bonus in the first place.

I'm with ninikins--why worry about radio much anymore unless it's just local broadcast stations for traffic reports?

I prefer CDs. I guess you do get new music with a radio though...hard for me to say. I'm just too picky about music.

I don't think satellite radio is that big a deal either. It's one more thing to be switching channels with. Get a multi-cd changer instead. Listen to the music you want, reduce the cost of your car, and it will still be of good resale value in the future.

I disagree XM is a great feature with 1/3 the talk BS. well anyway does anyone know anything about that XM NavTraffic? I have a 2006 Accord w/ Nav and I want the XM NavTraffic feature but don't know anything about it other than it show the traffic, but is there something else you must buy?
