How long should I wait until I can hit VTEC in my Si
The manual says nothing about it, and the guy at the dealer says its fine, he actually encourages VTEC during the test drive ![]()

Well most dealers are total morons. 600 miles is brake in on a S2000, so I think that will put you in the clear. If you must take it into VTEC do not change gears, push in the clutch, or pull it into neutral. When the RPMs go up under load (The valves have load when pulling the car) they seal the rings to the piston walls better and if there is no load metal thats still coming off can get above the piston ring and on top of the piston.... Need I explain more. If so, The vavle will come down to let gas in and take exhaust away and hit this piece of metal and dent the piston or knock a hole in it. It will also warp valves. So just stick to at least 600 miles or 1000 on the safe side.

okay, I did send it up to the shift light once yesterday, trying to keep up with my dad, I started smelling burning after I shifted up so I just shifted out of VTEC, I think I'll just wait the 600 miles.
btw, I did check the manual, it says the break in is 600 miles, but dosen't say anything about VTEC but when my dad hit VTEC, the s2k just disappeared

Not to be mean, but your dad 75% throttle will leave your car out of sight. Break in means no revs over 4,000 unless on the interstate crusing, but hopefully it don't rev that high in 5th/6th and you don't need to go WOT to get to the limit. Just really baby is until 600 miles, it won't take you that long to get there.

The Si actually seems more powerful in the s2000 at the lower revs, and between the s2000's rear tires being close to gone, and my dad's short shifting I didn't have any problem keeping up until...

I give it a lot more credit to the S2000's race designed suspension over the RWD factor, but both are important. A lot of people say the S feels sluggish in the bottem end. I have to disagree. I think it is due to the major advantage after VTEC that you really see what you're missing when not in that range. I'm sure without VTEC the S2000 would still be very quick.

I should have turned on VSA, it defies the laws of physics and allows the Si to make street corner turns at 80 mph
![]() I also think a major part of the handling is how the weight is distributed I'm still suprised by how much the s2k weighs though, it feels a lot lighter than 2800 pounds
