i was just wanted to hear other people's opinions on mandatory electronic stability control making over and understeer almost impossible. also, does anyone know if it can be turned off?

I think there are many hacks available to turn it off

over all it is probally a good idea for some cars, luxury, all buicks, and suvs, but for s2ks, ummm....other rwd sports cars, its a bad idea. I think it should be mandatory on AT cars, and not on MT cars. That way you can let the purists drive, and make sure most of the people who can't drive have stability control.

yeah, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to be mandantory on automatics, because there are a lot of people out there who don't know how to react to oversteer and understeer, and most of them drive automatics.

Not all people who drive autos are like that, but it will cover most of them, while penalizing not many of those who don't want ESC

Under and over steer are more common in RWD cars which are becoming less and less. The Vette,S,350,MX-5 all have STM but it's at the touch of a button turned off. I'm sure you can get a reflash to remove it from most vehicles.

They put stability control on all high end cars and it works. Most of the time you'd be glad you had it. In sports cars like the Porsche you can turn it off if you want to be able to drift. However, just because one has a sports car, doesn't necessarily mean he/she knows how to drive it. For most american street drivers it's not just a good idea, it's a great idea. It can save your bacon literally and we'd all be glad to have it in some of these super fast exotics if we had one. Even the Vette has it. Someday, not too far off they will all have it, even the little econ boxes. You bet it's here to stay; technology is on a roll. Just imagine, mmmmm, say 75 years from now or maybe 100, they'll look back at this time on our roads similarly the way we do to the cowboy days; "you mean people walked around with guns on"; or "you mean people actually drove cars unassisted by technology to help them stay in control". Wait and see, well of course I'll be dead but some of you young bucks will live to see it. People will be horrified to think that we drove with a steering wheel without autopilot.

So get used to it.

lol, wow, I wasn't expecting the attitude, but umm, yeah, ESC is espected to save a lot of lives, but I also like the ability to turn it off when I'm on a course.

Although I like the idea of cars that can drive themselves, I dread the day when we lose control completely.

I think people should learn how to drive before they get drivers licenses. that way we can save money on car insurance and road construction signs... but since most of us got our Drivers license out of a box of rice crispies (honda and acura drivers not applicable) I'm happy we have wonderful 3-letter words like ABS, ESC and HBO.

PIMP on!
