Default clutch inspection

Does anyone know about how much a Honda dealer might charge to check your clutch and see if there's anything wrong with it?

I'm afraid I might have burned it.

To see if it's still usable go about 15 MPH and put it into 4th gear. Go 100% throttle/WOT and if it slips you need a new clutch. If it bogs your clutch will last for a while longer. You can also try to take off from a dead stop in 3rd.

Bogging is stalling? Slipping is slipping in and out of gear? WOuldn't it stall either way?

If I can take off from a stop in 3rd, it's still good?

Are there degrees of wear on it? Is it good until there's no friction material left and then it's no good?

Thanks for your help!

Bogging is were it almost dies but doesn't.
Stalling is where the car doesn't make enough power to the ground to make it move from a dead stop.
Slipping is where the clutch spins against the flywheel but doesn't make friction.
If it's popping out of gear you have a bad sincronizer.
If you can take off in 3rd you still have use left in it.
There are degrees of wear and they are pretty odvious. If it revs up before taking off after your foot is totally off the clutch it's gone then soon after that it just won't move at all and free spin like your not in a gear.

I understand. These replies were very helpful. I'm sorry I seem so ognorant. It's my first manual trans car. I couldn't even find one to rent before I bought the Si.

It seems like it's still ok.

Better to ask than be uninformed. However, I didn't realize your on a new car. Take it to the shop after the holidays, inspection should be within your warantee and you don't want to accidently abuse it farther and have them suspect you've been racing and not fix it for free.

Good advice. You think they'd look at it for free?

I tested it as you guys suggested and it seems to be fine. I would like to confirm it for sure, though. On the other hand, what's to stop them from telling me I need a new clutch even if I don't?

They will have to pay for the new clutch. They might look at it and might not. Call the dealership you bought it from and ask to speak to the service manager. Tell him your situation and see what he thinks about an inspection.
