Default catback vs. custom exhaust

hey all-

i have had this thought floating around my head for a while. would it be better to buy a cat back exhaust system for my car or to buy a high flow muffler, cat, and bigger piping and have a muffler shop put it all together for me? i think the latter would be more cost effective but i'm always willing to pay more to have things done the right way.

a muffler shop can bend you tubing that they have and probably have mufflers on hand but e bay would be a little cheaper. I reccomend a muffler shop's work if your on a budget. make sure they garantee no leaks.

You really need to be careful buying anything off of ebay...speaking from experience. There are a lot of scum bags out there looking for someone trying to find a bargain to mislead them and rip them off.

Case in point...see how many megan exhaust systems there are. How the hell is magen...I thought it was mugen? You really have to read the fine print. Also it would be better to go to a local shop, for two reasons. One, if you have any probs...there LOCAL...not mail order across the country and two...I had my teg done for $75. I had bought the muffler, took it to them and they ran all the piping, welded the joints and installed the muffler and a flex joint...so it was a good deal.

Megan is a very reputable brand. I see lots of people with those .99 cent mufflers with 40 dollar shipping but I would never but a whole system from ebay. I'm deffinatly not a supporter of the work ebay does.

DC is starting to turn into a rice fest IMO.

So many other companies out there produce such more high quality products.

yeah...but the thing I want is a few years old so it is before the 'tainting' period.

yeah, i understand. i was wondering if the power gains would be comparable between the two. and also if removing the cat would harm my engine's performance....i'm afraid of all these new electrical systems :S

removing the cat will foul the 02 sensor faster but power gains are a big plus.
