Ok, so since this is a General forum, I'm gonna start a discussion on my next project.
We've decided to keep the Jeep! As a family-mobile/grocery-getter, we're going to turn it into an automagic! Its a 2003 Jeep Liberty, 3.7L 4x2 with a 5 speed manual (for now) This is my parts list thus far that I can think of: Automagic Trans (42RE 4spd) Trans Control Module Trans Control Harness Engine Control Unit New Automagic Trans Mounts Driveshaft New U-Joints New Flexplate New Front Pump and Extension Housing Seals New Trans Filter 16 qts of ATF+4 New Flexplate New Shifter New Shift Cables (x2) New Brake Pedal New Park/Neutral Safety Switch and harness New Center Console (????) I think thats it....can anyone think of anything else? I would appreciate ANY tips, advice, kind words, general commentary, or 12 packs that I can get from you guys! |

Lol on the 12 packs.
Just out of curiosity, why are you swapping to an auto? The stick will get you better gas mileage. For all that work you might as well sell yours and just buy a used Liberty with an auto already in it (it might not even cost you that much if you play your cards right).

Lol on the 3.73s!
I'm gonna need all the 12 packs I can get. As far as the reason for the swap, I would prefer the grocery getter to be an automatic. For one, the wife can't drive a manual (she's due for another lesson Sunday, which will be the second lesson in five years). Second, traffic in a manual sucks. Third, with a baby in the back seat a new mom and a new manual driver wouldn't mix really well. Fourth, I don't really care about the gas mileage in this one, thats why we're keeping the civic and crx (hers gets 36, mine gets 40-45). Lastly, I've got three years left on the loan for the Liberty and the payoff is relatively low. Nobody seems to want a manual SUV (I did....people are just wierd) so if I trade it in, I'm probably out 2k-3k and I'd prefer not to do that. Plus I work in parts and I've got A LOT of connections with this kinda stuff. For example....my price on a NEW flexplate is about $15. This swap should be relatively cheap for me. Thanks for the support guys! |
