I have an 89 crx hf, and the other day I got bored and decided to clean the throttle body. So, I disconnected everything and pulled the throttle body off, I sprayed it off with some STP throttle body cleaner, wiped it down, and let it dry. I put it back on, and connected everything, when I was done I started the car and it was Idling at about 2100 RPMs, I let it warm up and it went down to about 1800 RPMs... and it hasn't gone down any more since then. I thought it might have been that the throttle body was stuck open, but it's not. It still revs up and all, it just doesn't idle at what it should... before I cleaned it, it had a slightly higher than normal idle, but now it's ridiculous. I can't figure out what it is. I've even been consulting the chilton's manual for the car and I still can't figure it out... Am I just an idiot? Is it possible the answers right in front of my face, and I'm just looking right past it? Did I maybe get a vacuum line backwards or something? I can't figure this one out
. Any possible help is greatly appreciated. If you guy's have any other questions feel free to ask... |

By you cleaning it its actually idleing correctly. When you had a higher idle before was b/c the gunk build up was holding the butterfly open more. Don't worry about it bro. You actually made it better

I agree. You might try resetting the ECU to help it relearn how much air is coming in (disconnect the bayttery fro 10 minutes and then drive around for a few blocks normally to update the settings).

Yup, it normally takes 30-45 drive cycles for the ecu to relearn itself. Try looking up the "ECU resetting" article on this forum. That will tell you how to manually reset your ecu and save some time. Keep in mind that when you do this, you will still have some funky settings for a while until the ecu relearns everything.

To do it in 15 seconds disconnect your negative cable and hold it against the positive.

no, b/c you remove the negative terminal and touch it to the positive. So basically the battery is totally disconnected and then both terminals will be touching the positive. It clears your ECU rather quickly without sparks.
