I've got a civic w/1.6L sohc and I replaced the timing belt today, after setting the belt tension and lining the crank at TDC,the cam gear is pointing up and the lines look horizontal on the gear face, but the cyl.head mating surface is hard to see,the lines on the gear are supposed to be horizontal to the deck. Is there a more accurate way to set the cam gear? I think i am a tooth off!

You could use a timing light, but unless you have the stock specs that won't work.
