If you have to swap motors, do a B or a K series. Another D will bolt right in, but with all the other stuff you have to change, it's better to go ahead and do a B. Your Civic can handle a B16 or a B18, just get the right engine mounts. If I'm not mistaken, the Si came with a B16 and the B18 uses the same mounts. So if you can get some Si engine mounts and an Integra clip, you can build yourself an American Type-R (well just the engine). A K20 will get the most power, but it's expensive and really hard to swap. Since your Civic was designed to accept the B and D, then mounting the B will be pretty easy.
I say find a wrecked Integra with a B18B (94-01 non GSR or ITR), pick up the entire front clip, and swap in everything you can. That includes the engine, trans, wiring, accessories, radiator, ECU, and gauges. While you're at it, put in an LSD, since you will already have everything out of the car. Since the Civic and Integra are the same chassis, most everything should line up without too much issue. I would reccomend finding the shop manuals for the cars so you know what will fit where. Later on, you can do an LS/VTEC and make the whole shebang worth while. That is unless you find a good deal on a GSR clip. If you can afford it or save up a bit more, you can do it all at once and save yourself a bit of work down the line (if you do the VTEC engine later, you will have to change gauges, wiring, and some accessories a second time around. Better to save up if you are going to all this trouble in the first place). Plus if you use all OEM parts, then you can keep the reliability Honda is known for. I am assuming your car is stick. If not, then also factor in the cost and work of replacing the slushbox with a man's transmission. Autos can't take advantage of real VTEC since they shift before the motor makes any real power. |

thanks, do u know how much would it cost (estimate) my car is automatic which i hate so far its my moms car but im gettin it in a couple of months so im starting now and doing researches and collecting money. i though about replacing automatic to stick but i dont know if it would be worth and how much would it cost? wat u think about B16A2 from 1999/2000 civic Si

If you are mechanically inclined, then it's not the worst thing in the world. It can be done, but it helps if you know a bit about what you are working on. I would reccomend selling the car and buying a stick from around the same yesr. If you play your cards right, then you can profit (since autos tend to resale for more than sticks) so you will have a bit left over for mods.
A B18B runs for about $900 with accessories. A B18C1 costs about $1600+. Add in another $600 or so for the rest of the clip (providing it hasn't been gutted) and that's your parts cost. Also $500 for the LSD. Then add about $600 for LSD installation, and then the rest is up to how much you can wrench. |

If you wanna just swap the tranny my guess is that it should cost you around... $400-700.. That is just a rough estimate because it all depends on if you do the work and where you buy the tranny and other parts for the swap..Honestly if you want a fast car the swap is hella worth it but, if your gunna go as far as a tranny swap I would personally save up to get a Bseries and that comes wit a tranny and do the swap from there.. I believe you gotta buy a new center console but I'm not 100% sure on that one.. But for sure if the tranny doesnt come with it you gotta get shifter linkage.. The bseries swap could cost you from $1400-1800 for the motor alone depending on if you get a B16 or a B18 it could be cheaper if you just buy the motor but then you would have to worry about getting a tranny to fit the engine so i would just go ahead and buy it with the motor and tranny.. It could cost more also if you don't put it in with yourself or a couple of buddies.. If ya need any more info feel free to ask..

That is a B16. If you are going to swap motors, find a B18. And in your case, I'd say buy an entire front clip and not just a motor. The clip will have everything you need on it whereas a motor alone willbe missing a lot of what you need. Just some things you will get in a clip that you won't in a motor: pedals, brake cylinders and lines, radiator (I think it's bigger than yours so use it), all the heater and coolant hoses, and engine mounts. It's well worth the extra initial cost when you don't have to go running around finding all these little extra parts that you need but don't have.
How much do you know about working on cars? If you don't have a lot of experience then I would not reccomend doing an engine and trans swap. Take it a step at a time. |

Honestly, if you can't afford the B18 stuff I say go ahead and get a B16 and build it.. Both swaps are deff worth it thou.. B18 can typically be easier to get more power out of.. But, if you get a B16 out of a Civic Si it should be a lot newer than the B18 would be...If you don't know alot about working on cars.. I wouldn't take it somewhere and have the swap done unless you don't know anyone that knows how to do that stuf.. If you know someone that knows how to do that stuff have them help you do it... Plus its a heck of a lot easier to do a swap with more than one person.. But taking it somewhere should be a last resort kind of thing...
