Talking Honda Fit 2007

It is extremely well designed small car, versatile and
spacious inside beyond imagination. What I would
change/improved in the future is:
1. Wheels (14") are too small; front overhang too low, so
there are problems with driving on snowy roads, particularly
in Northern States.
2.Floor mats. They are not on a standard equipment; only molded
rubber ones were available for $154 added to puchase price.
I plan to add another set of regular (fabric ones) for summer driving;
rubber mats smell nasty during hot days.
3. Cruise control: manufacturer does not provide an option for Cruise
control installation on stanard models, only sport one has c.c. installed
as a standard equipment. Installation by the dealer requires some
changes and is costly (around $500)
4. Last but not least: disappointing mileage. Opinions in that matter
are quite polarized, I cannot go beyond 26 gallons in the city driving
and beyond 30 on the highway. It is way below manufacturers claims.
I've disussed that matter with the dealer, who said, that nothing can
be adjusted to improve gas mileage, as it the whole component is
factory sealed(!) I wonder if other owners have similar experience.

I think they should make the Fit about 2 or 3 inches shorter (height) and about 2 inches wider, and long enough to fit 8 foot lumber. My Integra does that now, has a bigger engine with more power and better mpg, and also handles better. Build another EG Civic hatch out of the Fit, and it will really sell. Oh and the Type-R has to have at least a 1.8 liter engine (2.0 or 2.4 is peferred)

Yeah, I didn't mean to rag on the Fit too much. It's a good car, but that's what I would like to have seen. Nobody really sells a hot hatch anymore. The new ones are all too tall and big. The Fit is the smallest of them all. If the car fit 8' lumber, my dad probably would have sold his Matrix and bought the Fit. Hell, he would have bought the Fit if they sold it here in 2004 when he was looking for a new car.

14" is definitely too small on a new car, although I never realized the front was that low.

I'm surprised its not an option, although the EVO doesn't have it either

Thats surprising, make sure your tire pressures are good, air filter is clean, oil is good, and other maintenance is up to date.

I'm surprised you didn't say anything about the missing dead pedal or center arm rest, when I test drove one those were the biggest issues I had with it. Either way its a good addition to the fleet as it is now what the Civic used to be. Hopefully they'll develop some new (and sportier) variations soon.

A bigger engine would be nice, although we can't have Honda giving it a k20a2/z3 or k24a2, because then you would have a lot of unhappy Civic owners

There is something wrong there cause my wife's Fit gets 28 in the city and she got 35.5 on the highway!

The tires are small...yes but you can go up to a 17"

The Fit is not to be like a Civic hatch...it is HMC's American product for the micro market...small, fuel efficient and inexpensive.

...which is what the Civic used to be. Now it's a midsize sedan.

and the accord is a full size car now, everything just keeps getting bigger, except sportbikes, they are actually getting lighter.

Yeah it's a shame American obesity is affecting Japanese cars.

Exactly...just watch the Fit will evolve into more of an appealing car just like the CVCC did!

I believe that eventually the Fit will take the place of the old Civic hatch and the Civic's will replace the accords on the small to mid category and the Accord will evolve into Honda's Cadillac car!

But back to the topic...

I do have two gripes about the Fit

1. No Keyhole on the passenger front door!

2. No keyhole in the hatch or remote release...so if you lose the remote you have to unlock the door with the key...open the door...hit the unlock all doors switch...then open the hatch at the rear...ugh!
