Apparently this is an issue with the design of Honda 6 speed transmission in general, even in the v6 cars and the s2000. However, considering how good the rest of their cars are, including the rest of the transmission I would still buy another Honda if they would stop using FWD.

Still, I find it discouraging that this happened to Honda at all. I also find it weird that it's only coming out now, especially if it's happened in the Accord and S2K. Does this happen in the RSX too?

I meant in their more reasonable car, sure the NSX and s2k are RWD, and the RL, RDX, and MDX are AWD (I don't count Honda's other AWD systems), but I'm looking for an AWD sport sedan next, and Honda doesn't have anything in that category.
oh, and all their bikes are RWD too ![]()

If the RSX has this problem too, then why is it only coming into public eye now? It's been 6 years since the RSX came out (8 for the S2K), so shouldn't this probem have been fixed by now? That is what is making me unhappy with Honda.
Remember the Ultimate Civic post? I will never understand why Honda puts one of the best AWD systems in the world into SUVs. This is the system that rivals the EVO's S-AWC and the GT-R's new ATTETSA-ETS system, but it isn't in a car worth tuning. I still think if SH-AWD is put into something like the RSX then Honda will have be able to really get back into the compact market. Because let's face it, the Civic Si is fat. At least a SH-AWD car would have purpose behind its mass (and a good way to control it).

Honda Coming Soon
![]() |
Well, it isn't just Ford and Honda. Its all car companies. They will deny it as much as they can until a lawsuit or something pops up and they have no choice but to fix the problem.. Its a buisness just like any other buisness and their main goal is to make as much profit as possible. But, I do think very well that since this is such a common issue Honda needs to recall the cars that this tranny was put it and get it fixed asap. I'm not saying I won't buy another Honda period just not a new one.

The Civic Si is actually a relatively light car for what it is, its no longer a small car, and modern safety and convenience are heavy.

A Civic weighing more than 3000 pounds is insane. Same with the Sentra and Corolla. I think it's sad that every time a car is updated it gets bigger and bigger. And if the Elise can pass US crash tests under 2000 pounds, there is no reason a Civic can't do the same at 2500. The manufacturers build cars that the mass population likes (hence why the EVO comes with an auto. Since you don't use a clutch pedal and shift lever, DSG is not manual, I don't care what you say). This is where enthusiasts like us need to speak up and get the OEs to listen to us. Becasue we buy a lot of cars too.
Dre is right, but Honda has never done that. which is why it would be suicide not to fix the problem. We might buy another Honda, but the people who just buy commuter cars will move onto something that doesn't pop out of gear.

The DX civic actually has a listed curb weight of 2586, however the Si is 2886 lbs. About 200 lbs of that is interior stuff (sunroof, stereo with subwoofer), and an extra 100 for the powertrain (thats a guess based off of the weight of the EX). Honestly thats not too bad for a car of that size, the s2000 weighs 2864 lbs. However, the 50/50 weight distribution in the s2000 makes a big difference. *all weights are curb weights from Honda's website
