Default Chipping my car

so i'm wondering if i was to buy a performance chip for my car, is it true that i would have to use .91 octane gas? can i get a chip that will allow me to continue using the regular .87 octane gas?

Probably not, since your car is already well tuned for 87 octane. Unless you have a built NA engine, there's no gain to be had, since the stock ECU can account for the extra air made by an intake, exhaust, etc. 91 gas has more energy in it to burn, so even a stock engine can gain more power by exploiting that energy, since it wasn't originally designed to run on that fuel. You could get a programmable ECU and spend some time on a dyno, but again, the results will be very low, and the cost will be pretty high.

lol, I've never had a vehicle that ran on anything other than 91-93 octane. Its really not that bad if you know where to go. We have a Flying J in our area with real cheap 92 octane.

As far as chips themselves what chips have you looked at? What model is your Accord? Hondata may have a s100, s200, or s300 for you.

Actually, the way to go is to use the Honda ECU hack. It's in one of the "...For Dummies" books. I think it's Tuning and performance or something like that. It's by David Vespremi and has a red and black MR2 on the cover. There's a step-by-step guide to building your own programmable ECU. It's pretty easy, costs $100, and involves getting a new computer chip from Radio shack and downloading some software.

can i just go to any book store and find this for dummies book? cuz that's deffinitly something i might wanna look into...and i don't remember what kinds i've looked at, i took a look on ebay and found a few, but none for my 96 accord, they were only for 95's....and what would i all have to know about building my own chip? like would i have to know the specs to everything? and would i gain any hp or acceleration or anything?
