To warm up your car helps with lubrication. So just think of it as running your car with or without oil. Which would you choose?

doesn't hurt to let the oil start circulating for a few minutes, also it depends on the temp outside. If its warm out I always take it easy on the rpm's as other stated. If its cold its always better to let the engine start warming, could mean the difference between hurting the main or rod bearings especially if you run a high performance oil.
