Yes you would need to fasten the hood down. I would use hood pins down the front like a normal hood, and then when you pop them BAM!!! Split hood. It would be a cool, sleeper kinda look.

Yeah but if you split it down the middle, where would you put the pins --- youd need like 8 and a subframe to hold it on well? It would be a cool idea for a show low rider, but Im not sure if it would be practical.

yeah just imagine how hard would it be to work on it since you can only access it form the front maybe if u plan to make it a show car and got everything done with the engine

I'd put 4 down the front of the hood (like normal). Since air is moving parallel to the seam in the hood, aerodynamics won't rip it open, espeically if you have the front well secured. Now if you spin out, that's another story. Actually, on second thought, four wouldn't work, since aligning them to engage correctly without putting huge holes in your hood wouldn't work. Just add two big honking pins and that should hold it down. Or if you want to be fancy, put a standard hood latch on each section of hood in front (you would have to align them 90 degrees so they would work like normal) and back by the firewall. It would take a little bit of designing and some good fabbing, but that would be the cleanest way to do it.
