Default Mtf?

I have a week and a half old '07 Civic Si, and I have problems shifting into 3rd when its cold, I heard that replacing the MTF helps it.

Any thoughts on what is best, I heard Amisol, and how much would it probally cost, shop or dealer?

btw, accidently started it this afternoon with all three pedals mashed (accident, I had my foot on the brake, and it slid over to the gas), it sounded awsome but I smelled burning afterwards, its faded mostly now, just a slight burning smell like when the engine was new.

New fluid isn't going to help. You probably have double coned syncros so that won't be easy to shift until they get warmed up. Didn't you notice it in the S2000 with triple coned syncros?

I doubt your breif experience is much to worry about.

I guess so, I just was parinoid, new car + reading on edmunds about oil not being in the engine for the first few seconds =

btw, is it normal for reverse to grind like crazy if you try to shift into it when moving backwards?

Yes. That's a bad idea. Come to a complete stop before going into reverse in FWD cars. The intermediate drive shaft is spinning forward then you'r trying to rotate it the other way without slowing down. Grinding second in your car is because you know how much effort is should take to get into the gear and after applying that much you let the clutch out some. I do it on occasion if I'm not paying much attention.

okay, I guess I never grind first in the s2000, because its RWD and I don't feel like pressing the lever back down again.

That pressing the shifter down thing is a good idea though, I almost hit a concrete barrier the other day because I was in 6th, not R

should have gotten an s2000

I've heard that the best solution so far is the MTF, I think I'll just go to a local shop and get it replaced

Is there any way this is caused under warranty, the problems are intermittent, so it would be hard for the dealer to find a solution, and I don't think I can just tell them to change the MTF.

They will take it apart and check your syncros most likely.
