Sounds like a tranny problem. You will have the most stress in 5th gear, If it's not slipping there it is a different problem.

If it were me, I would check to see if I could change gears without clutching. ( When releasing the throttle, theres is a split second where the tranny is in an "open" state. If you find the open space it should be possible to take the car out of gear without using the clutch. It should also be possible to put it into gear if you match the vehicles speed , rpm and gear.....again, it should go in without clutching.......
If everything works out without any grinds ( given that you do it right).....its probably your pressure plate...if not your tranny has synchro issues. But I would even check the linkage just to make sure.

I have noticed the same problem. For me, it only happens with first gear -- I can't shift into first gear unless I'm going less then about 10 or 15 KPH, or else there's a severe grinding noise (which I'm sure is NOT good)....so, I just make sure I'm stopped or going very slow before shifting into first. Other then that, I have no problems....?

its most likey a synchro problem i had the same problem in my 91 civic going in to 3rd gear and if its hard to get in and out of gear you should check your clutch cable out under the hood sometimes that plastic nut thing losens up and it causes problems like that

Could be your synchronizers as well. I have had a similar problem with my 95 Civic

I also have the same problem. I can't shift when I am at 10 mph. It feels like the gearbox gets stuck. I have to put it on 2nd.

man, i just avoid downshifting all together cause I don't know how to do it right, so I just go into neutral and use the brakes to slow down. Also my shifter pops out of 2nd gear alot and when I hold it in sometimes I get this thud sound and it feels like the car punched me for it, why is this?
