Hello everyone.
This may sound as a dumb question for some but here goes. I own a 1997 honda civic vti 4 door sedan. I purchased this car here in the Philippines which as you know is very close to Japan. This car came with a single over head 1.6 liter vtec engine. As far as I know this engine would be a d16y motor. By the way civic models in america are designated differently here in Manila. We only have 3 models here lowest would be LX then Vti then Sir which has the b16a motor. So which engine code do I have . |

pop your hood and look at your motor. Put your hand on the left edge of it and look down. About 2 inchs below where the valve cover ends is an angeled plate with D16-- something on it. Thats your code. However I think SOME of the codes that ship over seas are pretty weird. Still 16 will be in there for your 1.6L.

Hi,
I'm from South Africa and I drive a 97 Honda Vtec 3 dr, It goes beautifully. I'm also concerned about my take off, its a bit slow and I'm just curious to know that the only technical modification that makes a vtec a vtec, is the varieble valve lifters??? |

Its the VTEC head, I don't think there is any way to get VTEC other than adding a VTEC head to a non VTEC engine (note, this requires doing some modifications to the rest of the engine) or swapping a VTEC engine in.
Here is all you need to know about VTEC

dufflebagman, you'll have a check engine light on if you're running a newer computer with an old engine....it won't go away unless you swap the whole system to obd 1. what mods do you already have? I'm guessing i/e but let me know for sure.
