After I break in the new Si, I'll start to think about mods. I don't want to void my warranty, but I've been doing a lot of reading about it.
Does anyone have the Honda optional "sport muffler?" It seems to change the sound and only add maybe 3 or 4 horses. I guess I'd have to do a full cat-back exhaust to really add power. I was thinking about a new air intake- K&N or AEM. Ant suggestions? Can that be sone without doing anything else? Does anyone know if any good shops in the NY/LOng ISland area? My warranty allows me to take my car to any mechanic I want... |

You can put on an intake or exhaust without any other modifications.
The AEM v2* is supposed to give good power gains, and is supposed to be realy easy to install. The downside is that it tends to be fairly expensive. *I just checked the AEM site and it seems that the v2 has not yet been developed for the 06 si What type of sound are you looking at for your exhaust?

Well, the sound is not really as important as a gain in HP/torque. But I wouldn't mind making it lower pitch. I don't really want to make it any louder (not much, anyway). It sounds pretty good stock.
Are K&N intakes as good as AEM? I've heard about problems with water in both. Is that true? Someone also told me that the car might get sluggish in hot summer weather (Honda mechanic) with one of those intakes. There's a lack of '07 parts right now, but I'm sure everyone will catch up. I thought if I could do a couple of minor things that won't void my warranty, especially the intake... What do the intakes usually cost? And a "cat-back" exhaust? Any mods would be done by a mechanic, not by me. I don't know nearly enough yet. I'm new at this. SOrry about all the questions. |

Questions are one of the reasons this forum is here
For the intake, AEM offers a air bypass valve for CAIs (could air intakes) that helps prevent hydrolock I guess that if the pavement is really hot the air that the intake pulls up near the groung might be warmer than that pulled in by the stock intake near the hood. The Tanabe Medalion Touring is a quiet exhaust that should give you a few more HP. More info here you can also listen to an Si with it there. cat-back exhaust: everything behind the catalitic converter is replaced AEM CAI is about $300 Tanabe exhaust is about $700 Here's a picture of the tanabe medalion touring exhaust: ![]()

Its ok to get a new intake without a new exhaust
(even with stock exhaust the new intake will make the exhaust note slightly more aggressive) I don't know which is considered better, especially with the new '06 Si As far as warranty goes I'm not sure, but I think as long as the intake or exhaust dosen't cause the problem and you choose a good place to get them installed.

You can install them both yourself. The term the machanic was refering to is called "heat soak" it's where the filter gets over heated with hot air from under the hood. With a long ram intake (one into the fender well) you will see no problems of this. Also, Apex World Series is my vote for exhaust. They have almost the same look and I know the WS is very quite and aggressive sounding at WOT (wide open throttle) The Tanabe is also very nice. It's your call.
If you do these mods yourself (which is not hard) keep anything stock and if you have to get it serviced put the stock stuff back on. If your the worried about the warantee cunsult your sales rep.
