I am breaking in my new Si and driving it gently as possible. I occasionally notice a burning smell. Is this normal during the break-in period? I hope I'm not burning the clutch. I've been careful with it.

VTEC- Variable valve Timing and Electronic lift Controls. There is not H and if you run into a real asshole all are capitalized but I'm not that picky. VTEC hits/crosses over at 5900 to 6200 on the S2000 and NSX only (unless modified to do so) Your looking at a 5200-5300 cross over point. However, you have i-VTEC which I refer to as imaginary but it stands for inteligent which makes the cams not hit VTEC as quickly so you wont really feel it, maybe a slight sound increase but thats about it.

There are a number of possible smells on a new vehicle.
1) Some, not all, new engines have the gloss coat/rust preventative on them. I know only some of the GM's do. 2) Clutch coat burning off. 3) Anything on the engine that may be painted that gets hot or is near something like exhaust will smell for a while. 4) There is also assembly lube inside your engine that needs to work it's way out. I'm not sure the cause of your smell, it is probably a little bit of everything. Now quit treating that thing like a baby and let 'er go!!!!
