i have a 93 honda civic with a d15b7 in it that had a bad motor when i got to the place they said all there motors are japan direct with low miles and i asked if the new motor will be the same a d15b7 he said no all d series Japaneses motors are just d15, when i got my car back it says d15b2 and iv heard those are not jdm only out of early 90s crxs. if thats true i got ripped off and who knows how many miles i really have so my questions are.
1. are d series japan motors only d15 2. are the d15b2 motors only from crxs 3. and is there any way to look up the serial on the motor to see where it came from thank you for any help |

A Japanese serial number will generally not cross into Service Information from a US dealer (neither will European for that matter). Generally, JDM motors are lower mileage, due to an abundance of the vehicles there and concentration of civilization (they ain't gotta go too far to get anywhere). You probably got a pretty good deal. What did you end up paying for the motor?

There are D12s, D13s, D14s, D15s, D16s, and D17 engines.
The D15B2 was in the CRX DX as well as the Civic DX and LX from 1988 to 1991. You lost about 10 hp with the different motor, but that can be made up with a few bolt on parts. Also, just because a motor has low mileage doesn't mean that it's in good condition. For example, what if I sold you a supercharged V8 that only had 1/2 a mile on it. Sounds good right? What if I told you it came out of a Top Fuel Funny Car? All of a sudden that 1/2 a mile makes a difference. JDM motors vary widely in mileage and you can't always trust them. Don't assume that just because it's JDM it means that the engine has low miles on it.
