I am sure you could learn it from a book, but you really have to understand when and where you need fuel, timing advancement or retardation. All kinds of different things to know before you start changing settings.

You absolutely can save gas and add HP. We tuned an 06 Chevrolet 1500 4x4 5.3 v8 with an HP tuner and added about 30-35 whp and added 6 mpg hwy to it. It was also a very mild tune that was done. With more time we could definetly get more power and possibly keep the added MPG he is getting now.

Your right punk. You can add forced induction to a vehicle and add MPG as well. YOu just have to keep your foot out of it.

Where can you get a book to learn about tuning and stuff PT? I'm interested in doing it with the TSI I'm getting. Because its got a few mods on it and stuff and I'm sure I can squeeze a few more HP out of it.

I am sure you can find a book at your local library. YOu can find almost any book or manual at the one in my town.
Or you can get one from an auto parts store. They have "How to" books for nitrous, s/c and turbo applications. It might tell you how to tune as well.

I just used a boomslang harness and would highly recommend -- took me 10 minutes to do the full install. Not only are you going to need a basic knowledge of what the car is doing, but also the programming for the chip and how to use it.

Find some people in your area who have the system you are going to purchase and have them walk you through programming for that unit -- I had a hard time figuring what they wanted me to put in what cell, but was able to figure it out after playing with it for an hour or so. You can also find a lot of material online to help you out in terms of understanding the mappings -- how they work and whats best for you.

You will need to take this and have it tuned and make sure to buy a wideband AFR meter so you know when you are running lean and when you arent, otherwise you might dammage something.

Good luck!

(Shameless plug -- dont forget to vote for ride of the month because we need more voters to get active in the process)
