Buddyclubboy, sounds like you're running very rich. That's either an oxygen sensor, bad spark plugs, or maybe even an old ECU. Have it checked out to see if the ECU is throwing a trouble code.
Jakemaricle, I just have to ask, how did you break the transmission? It should still be under warranty, so see if the dealer will fix it (doubtful if you've been abusing it). And what you need depends on what broke in the trnasmission.

Yeah, you're right, I read it wrong. That makes more sense, the Americans trannies are kind of crappy.

you may be looking at a bad ignition control module too. They act up when they get hot. I've seen coils do the same thing, but its a little less common. The crappy thing is that the ignition control module on that car is expensive if I remember right. You can take that part off and get it tested though. It may be worthwhile to buy a new distributor with the module instead of just the module by itself, its usually not too much more. jake You've got a 4L60 transmission in your camaro which is one of the most common trannys put in a rear wheel drive gm from the 90s. What I would do in your case is to change the filter and put some new fluid in it. You should drop out about 4 qts from the pan, put in 3 qts of dexron 3 and 1 qt of lucas transmission treatment in it. then try it again and see if it fixes the problem. If that doesn't fix it, it may be cheaper to put a junkyard transmission in the car. I didn't check your location before I started writing this, but if you're in the southeast and the problem persists, let me know and I'll put you in touch with a couple of people that deal with that stuff and you can get a warranty through. Oh, one other thought, what kind of shop did you take it to? the reason I ask is I'm on the shop counter at a mid sized dealership, we've got 16 techs and only 2 of them are qualified to work on a transmission. Always remember, if you're gonna take your car to a shop, take it to a specialist. |
