Default sythetic oil

On the 98 civic I am considering purchasing, the guy put synthetic oil in the engine. Does that ruin the seals ? At what mileage should the timing belt be changed?

timing belt should be changed at about every 100K (general rule of thumb). just keep in mind that once you use synthetic, you will pretty much have to stay on synthetic.

Well it will remove all built up gunk around the seals...

But that is a bad thing too because the old seals will fail causing oil leaks...

its not that the old seals fail its just that the seals were always crappy and the synthetic cleaned out the gunk that filled the holes in the seals
