I'm checking out a 98 civic lx 4 door. It has 173,000 miles. To the eye, it looks great. I'm talking to the second owner. The first owner was a kid and put a chip on a k&n filter inlet. I need something that wont kill me in gas and will still look sweet enough for my 16 year old. They want $4500. What do you think?

That's actually not a bad price tag. Find out when the timing belt was replaced and whether or not the alternator has gone out. If these are in good condition, you're looking at a pretty nice deal. My 1995 civic just turned 220K and it still gives me 33mpg, so that 98 lx should do very well.

I don't think they have changed the clutch. I've changed 4 clutches on a 93 and 95 prizm. Is it much different? How much should I knock off for the expected maintenance?
