OKay so i have a 2002 honda civic ex 1.7L D17A1 in which the oil pressure is at 20 and the dealer told me i need to get a new engine and if i keep on driving it i will eventually blow the engine. I am trying to deceide weither to cut my losses (which could be as much as $1600.00) and sell it at a auto auction, and buy a beater or replace the engine. I know a junk yard which sells the engines pretty cheap, but i know how touchy these cars can be with all their sensors, and the re-programs. I am wondering if anyone here has ever had to replace this engine and if so will i need to have the dealer re-program anything, or is it pretty much plug and play??
also I have a local mechanic who is pretty cheap, so i would like to have him do it, but I really need to know if theres special tools that will be needed to get this engine going and remove the check engine light. Any advise would help Thanks |

Did the dealer tell you what exactly was wrong with the car? I would take it to a local mechanic and ask a second opinion.

You could just give it to me!
But seriously 20 psi is a sign of two things... bad rings...which is not a very expensive repair head needs work...which is not that bad either Definatly take it to another mechanic...and have them do a compression test!
